When to visit and what to expect when you do
There are several ways to get acquainted with Nebraska Zen Center and our style of Zen practice:
1. Attend Sunday Open Zen, offered most Sunday mornings, 10:30-11:30. Click here for more. Note: it is not necessary to have first received zazen instruction to attend Sunday Open Zen. During Sunday Open Zen, we practice meditation for a brief period (15 minutes); simple instructions will be offered, in the event you are new to meditation. One of the teachers will then give a talk, followed by time for questions and discussion. We end the morning with tea, coffee and conversation in the community room.
2. Attend an Introduction to Zen workshop or a Tuesday evening class (see the Offerings tab for more information).
3. Attend dokusan (a face-to-face meeting) to get acquainted, ask questions and receive practice instruction from one of our teachers, Dosho or Tetsugan. Dokusan is currently offered at NZC on Tuesday evenings, beginning at 6:30pm (arrive and be seated in the zendo by 6:25pm).
When you arrive at the center, park on the street. Enter the building through the back door (follow the sidewalk around the right side of the garage and up the stairs). When you enter, place your shoes and outerwear in the designated spaces. Cell phones should be left in your car, or silenced and left in the back entryway with your other belongings (do not bring them into the meditation hall).
If you have questions about this or NZC generally that you'd like to ask before you visit, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
